Sabores Venezolanos -Venezuelan Flavors

Christmas without the typical Venezuelan flavors isn´t X-mas at all. So this year, apart from the traditional "pan de jamón" (which my sister-in-law Leo bakes) I wanted to add to our celebration, one more flavor .... a chicken salad! Mind you, I promise that for next X-mas I´ll try to make hallacas  (taking advantage that my mom arrives to visit tomorrow, I´ll see if I can convince her to "teach" me or at least give me the recipe lol)

Of aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllll the chicken salads I've tasted, the best one is my Lilita´s (my grandmother) A part that it has that flavor, that is so typical of everything that gandmas do with loooooots of love, it doesn´t taste like mayonnaise, which pleases me a lot. I am not a fan of mayo, at all! Without further ado, the makings of my first chicken salad, which I hope to make better and better as X-mases go by, until I  become the grandmother that will, someday, give her granddaughter the recipe.

Bake chicken with all the ingredients shown in the pictures

Boil the potatoes with the skin, wait until they are cold to peel them, cut them in little cubes and put them in a large tray. BTW, try not to cut your finger in the process, lol
Can´t help it, each time I use a knife it happens

Blend all the ingredientes until creamy

Cortar el pollo finito en pedacitos
Cut the chicken in little thin pieces

take a big breath because it´s a loooot of work!

Pour the sauce, mix in the chicken, the peas and the asparragus cut in half and then in three

Mix it all with a fork- not with a spoon because it ends up all mushy

Colocar en un bowl, decorar y disfrutar!
Place in a bowl, decorate & Enjoy!

Descubriendo Jumilla / Discovering Jumilla

Fuente: http://www.vinaelena.com/

Believe it or not,  after our ladies night, we woke up"early" to go on an adventure that pleasantly surprised us. Since Glendibiris told us she was coming to visit, we agreed that this time, her second visit to Murcia, we would go to discover beyond the capital. So we decided to go to the vineyards of the area. After asking here and there, I was told that there are two main areas, Jumilla and Bullas. This year I´ve tasted some wines from Jumilla, so I opted for this one and began to investigate. Well  let me tell you that we ran out of days to see everything it offers. Specially since Glenda´s visit was soooo short and we only had one day to enjoy it.

One of the things that surprised me most was learning that there is a Jumilla Wine Route. It has from routes and visits to several wineries to music festivals and now, in November, a gastronomic week. My second task was to choose the winery to visit. There are many listed, from the most traditional and old ones to the most modern and new. In the end,we made a reservation to visit the Vineyard Viña Elene  pertainig to the Pacheco family-BTW I learned uopn arrival that the Pacheco family was the owner. It reminded me my Lilita (my grandmother) who has the same surname. It is a family winery founded
in 50's by the grandfather of the present generation and it has passed through three generations. This is clearly stated in its three warehouses. The photo in the beginning of this post is of the newst one.

Once there, a more than charming guide gave us a tour through the vineyards as well as through the  winery and explained
everything in great detail. The visit ended with a tasting of two fabulous wines accompanied by some almonds, cheese and empanadillas. We were all delighted, even the kiddos who came with us to this visit. They paid attention and were really entertained with the story of  how wine is made- from  the vineyard  (in their own words a little plant) to the bottle, labeled ready to be sold.

To tell you the truth, now that I´ve discovered this gateway to the world of wines, wineries and vineyards I´m more than ready to visit several of them and to  benefit from the divine flavors of the region. As is expected, we left the store with several wine bottles and almonds and olive oil made by them!

Yesterday was one of those days when life surprises you. Ever since we came to live to Murcia,  I had heard of Archena and had even seen the bilboards announcing it. Still, I wasn´t curious about going or even taking a peak at its website. Well let me tell you BIG MISTAKE! I still can´t believe that a year has passed and that I hadn´t enjoyed such an ATOMIC place!

We´ve  rented a car for a few days and have been going around, doing a little bit of sightseeing. I must say that going to the place was Cheli´s idea. He was the one that asked me if I wanted to go with Leo for the day. I thought it was a good idea but didn´t junp right into it. We decided that if we were to go, it could only be on Wednesday (yesterday) because every other day we had something else to do. So, it´s Tuesday.... and I hadn´t even looked at the site or decided which plan to choose (Cheli told us there were two options) any way, everything was left to the last minute...Since I didn´t want Cheli to think I wasn´t interested or didn´t like the invitation- he´s always thinking of ways to please me- on Tuesday afternoon I finally decided to look it up and...................................WAO. I had imagined it as a place with a river or lakes and in the wild sort of speaking.... well nope! It´s like a spa with pools, saunas, jacuzzis and lots of other things, with body treatments and even three hotels!

Warm pool with lemons-Balnea Termalium
Our adventure begings on Wednesday, at about 11:30am when Cheli dropped Leo and me at the place. Our first appointment was at noon- a foot massage at the Balnea Termalium. "Clothed" and with our swimming caps (I will definitely owe you that pic because wearing those caps is less than siuting) we went to the place to start our day, and what a way to begin it! Then, and not really knowing what we were up to, went into every single one of the stations (if we can call then as such) There was an indoor pool with salty water dentined to float, 4 different types os saunas and even a real igloo (literally) showers with lots of nozzles in different places with hot and cold water and a nice warm pool with lots of lemons floating in it LOL you can imagine what a wonderful aroma!

Piscina interior-Espacio Termalium
Indoor pool-Termalium Space
We then wandered outside where there´s another pool with sprinklers, fountains, bubble beds and even a currents that sway you as if you were on a river. The best! We had a blast letting ourselves go. Every single detail is taken into consideration. These currents take to to the outdoor side of the pool where you can also find some of the bubble beds and from where you can enjoy the view- mountains and a big patio where you can relax in the sun, there´s cafeteria and another pool, similar to the one indoors.

A view of the indoor pool from the garden
By now or stomach was letting us know he existed and we went to the dinning room (the plan we choose includedd lunch) We ate wrapped in our towel-nest tme I´ll definitely rent the robe to be totally fashion. The meal was great and not even the pink wine we had was able to warm us. It was sooooo cold inside ; ) After resting for a while, it was time to head to one of the hotels. We had an appointment and the beauty center. An out-of-this-world aromatherapy massage and a champi one on the face (don´t ask me what Champi means, I just can assure you that it´s worth it)

The cheery on top of the day? Washing and styling my hair to leave the oils on my skin and cup of tea at the bar´s terrace, surrounded by palm trees and an eight "of the afternoon" Mediterranean breeze-as they say here.

** This post´s almost as one of those article one reads in an airplane LOL

All the pictures are from their website...I was way to relaxed and in the mood to be taking pictures
