Since I couldn´t find red envelopes to celebrate the Chinese New Year, I decided to make my own. It is also a good opportunity to do crafts with my kiddos. I must confess that I tried to attach the pdf. but I just did not know how ... So I had no other choice but to include the template as an image and what you have to do is print it in a A4 size page and you´re ready to go ….

Yep, believe it or not, with the whole bunch of Chinese establishments that we have here in Murcia, I still have to do the red envelopes or Hong Bao for the Chinese New Year celebration on Friday January 31st.

For those who do not know, this Friday the Year of the Horse begins! I researched here and there and, among the things that you have to do to receive it as you should (hey, without going to extremes) are:
  • Hand out red envelopes with Chinese letters for luck or good fortune in gold - to see how I made mine click here. They must have coins or sweets inside to activate prosperity!
  • Thoroughly clean the house, open the windows and purify the atmosphere with sandalwood incense .
  • After receiving the new year, you can not sweep the floor during the first 5 days .... to avoid sweeping the good luck and fortune that arrived with the new year.
  • Place a bowl with orange fruit in the driveway.

I think little things are all easy to make and so receive it as it deserves. Predictions and horoscopes I leave to the experts , lol

papitas de leche: perfect for tea time

There´s nothing better for a piñata or tea party than a papita de leche! They are super easy to make and can be prepared before hand. Fonse and I made these for Lilita´s 90th birthday. We used the colours  from the party theme and apart from cute they were delicious!!

ratatouille

source: morterodepiedra

A while ago I saw the movie again and since then I´ve craved ratatouille! This weekend I dared to cook it and even made it Disney style, slices and all. I read several recipes online and at the end decided on a relatively simple and light one. You know, we are trying to eat healthier and do our figure a favour lol.

The purists suggest that the veggies should be prepared separately and then cooked all together at the end … due to timing issues I did not  do it this way nonetheless I think it came out great. I served it with some feta cheese on top and yummy! It can also be accompanied with bread, cous cous and even quinoa, the possibilities are endless! Oh it  also called for summer squash or yellow zucchini; I didn´t have any that´s why I think the dish didm´t look as spectacular as in the movie.

Mi moto de este año: Do all things with love

Who would have told me that moving to  Murcia would be synonymous to hosting NYE, lol. until then, it happened elsewhere, never in my house. But I must confess that I love it. Thinking of what I´ll be cooking, decorating the house and even the DIY party favours.

This year Jose (one of Paco´s cousins) Camilo her hubby and Julia their child came home. As a  "novelty " we moved the living room sofa so we could have a dance floor! Frank and I even stayed up the night before making the playlist lol. Another super cool addition was that this year we received the New Year via Facetime with Frank´s brothers and with Sabi and Fonse in Miami!  This 3.0. world is just great! After the clock struck 12 and we had the grapes Pedro came and one thing let to another and when I saw the clock it was 6:00 am al ready! It had been a while since I stayed up till dawn. To sum it up, 2014 started on the right track, wrapped up by our loved ones and in good company, even if it was digitally.

It goes without saying that I wish you all, the best of the world this year, and I hope that all your  proposes come true. My moto this year : Has toads las cosas con amor.

pink bread

Yeap, pink bread, plus it´super healthy!
With the new year and the purposes, believe it or not I have not written mine yet …  I was craving beets. Since I prepared more than I could eat and of course with the left overs (I couldn´t get anyone else in my house to eat them …)  I went looking for other recipes to use them. I came across one that caught my attention. Beet Bread with garlic and thyme .... It came out fabulous, I made several changes … I used yoghurt and oregano instead of thyme and buttermilk ....
If you are up for it and want to start eating healthier this year and why not more fashion,  I dare you!

a whole new look

I love  glitter & washi tape so I decided to use the two and make from a simple IKEA candle something special for this season.

First lightly paint the candles with gold spray to give them different look.

Then place the washi tape, in this case I used one sold in IKEA has the word LOVE.

On a plate place the glitter (the color that you like) this one is slightly larger and thicker than the traditional one, in another plate the liquid glue with a little water.

Wet the edge of the candle in the glue and then in glitter.

Voilá! Listas para encender y disfrutar.
Voila! Ready to light and enjoy.
