Since Fonse is visiting us,  this year we ventured to participate in the activities that Murcia´s September Fair has to offer. It is a festival, dating from 1266, when Alfonso X the Wise granted the honor, and it is held during the first half of September, in honor of the Virgin of Fuensanta. It is the most traditional festival in Murcia.  Apart from the fair, it offers other events such as: the Cattle Fair, the Bullfights, the "Orchards of the Pier"- with all the stands (barracas) where you can taste the products from Murcia´s orchard and the wines from Jumilla, the festival of Moors and Christians and ends with the Procession of the Virgin of Fuensanta. It's a super extensive program, with all kinds of activities for all age groups, that I'm sure you´ll will enjoy if you dare to come and celebrate with us!!

So on Thursday we dressed up and went to the Huertos. The atmosphere was great and lively, with lots of people, all having tapas or dinning at the stands (barracas). We sat at one called Bao Bar, very nice (mostly because, although it was outdoors, it had air conditioning and those water trickles that  mist and keep you cool) We ordered a few typical tapas from Murcia.-

Lightly breaded fried Anchovies
Marinera "Fisherman" Potato salad topped with an Anchovy on a Breadstick
Lemon tree leaf, covered in batter, fried and served with cinnamon and sugar

After our immersion in the Huertos, it was time to say farewell to the virgin. Bright and early because the Mass starts at 7:00 am in the Cathedral. There, apart from hearing Mass, you can wait for the Fuensanta to come out of the Cathedral, at the Belluga Square and accompany her in procession to her shrine in Algezares. We only waited for her at Square and then, had some churros with chocolate. Maybe next year I´ll walk all the way up and accompany her to the top!

pack like a pro {empacar como un experto}

I love traveling but I wish I had magical powers to pack!

I know there are millions of versions on how to do it. Some people fold the clothes, others roll or extended them and those who simply throw them in the suitcase. As years go by,  I´ve been perfecting the technique that works for me when we travel to a place where I can get all the clothes out of the suitcase when I reach my destination. For this particular trip, that was not the case, unless I wanted to pack and unpack four traveler´s suitcases twelve times... But apart from actually packing the suitcase, what I find most difficult is to decide what to take and if it´s too much or not enough... If you're like me, this is what I do in order to survive  and pack a case like a Pro!

(1) Make the list. Especially if the trip is for several days, you have children and don´t  have many options for washing clothes.  I loved this packing list from The Buzz Feed especially the part where they tell you to take half of what you need and twice the money, lol

Having done this (2) Place all your clothes on the bed or floor  to easyly see what you´re planning to pack and

(3) combine trousers with two or three shirts and so on. BTW don´t forget the accessories for each outfit or to select appropriate underwear for each case.- you don´t want to be caught needing a strapless bra and not having packed one lol.
I loved  A Dose of Happy´s idea. If you succeed in doing it,  as beautiful as she did it in a notebook it can also be your guide while you are away.

This is where we have to (4) decide if all we got out of the closet is too little, a lot or if it´s actually necessary to pack it. This chart from The Berry.com can help to solve the dilemma.

(5) Empacar.

(5) Pack. Here I leave to your liking. As I mentioned at the beginning, I packed differently for this trip ... I put the clothes in the suitcase just like I puled them out of the drawer,  folded!! One pack of shirts and another of pants for everyone; this way the suitcase worked as a drawer in each of the places we visited. What we wore went to the bottom of the pile and so on and  everyone knew what to wear. However, I read that rolling clothes is a good choice too and judging by this pic from B for Bel guess it´s  true.
